Happy Tatsuya Imai day to anyone who celebrates!
The Astros are set to officially introduce their new pitcher at Daikin Park later today, but he’s already turned some heads in Houston after making an appearance at Sunday’s Texans–Colts game at NRG Stadium.
I have a hunch that he’ll fit in just fine with his new team and city.

In two seasons with the Astros (71 games, 70 2/3 innings), the right-hander posted a 4.08 ERA and 5.10 FIP, striking out 26.1% of opposing batters. An impressive 24 2/3 innings in 2024 (2.55 ERA, 28% K%, and 4.3% BB%) served as the launch pad for a roster spot in 2025. Still, there were some red flags, including a 5.23 FIP and a probably unsustainable 4.3% BB% compared to his previous averages in both the major and minor leagues. Those red flags proved valid concerns, with his walk rate climbing to 13.9% and his 4.89 ERA more closely aligning with his 5.03 FIP in 2025.
