Well, the Astros have now clinched a winning record for the month of May with 15 wins and 13 losses with only one game left. It may not mean much, especially for a team still at 27-33 this season and a -5 run differential for May, but it definitely beats the alternative.
Following a disappointing extra inning loss on Friday, Saturday’s win helps cleanse that palate. Not fully, but just enough. Peter Lambert threw the ball well, allowing two earned runs in five innings, walking three while also striking out three. AJ Blubaugh tossed three scoreless innings, striking out four while allowing a lone hit. Logan VanWey had a scoreless ninth. Overall, it was a decent, relatively stress free game for the staff other than that fifth inning when Lambert allowed two runs before getting William Contreras to ground out to end a two out, bases loaded situation.
The Astros’ lineup had a particularly good game, scoring nine on 12 hits.

The only hitters to not record a hit was Braden Shewmake and Nick Allen. Jeremy Peña had a three hit game, including a home run, with Christian Walker contributing one of his own. Ultimately, those nine runs were more than enough. Let’s hope they aren’t missing any of those runs in Sunday’s finale against Jacob Misiorowski.

I am more excited than Cody. JP3 played with a contagious enthusiasm. We scored plenty of runs to support an inconsistent Lambert still working on a few issues. The BP was solid.
Trammell, Shewmake, and Allen are convincing me and making DB look good. In general, good defense and plate approach.
