Jose Altuve is known for many things, including some questionable decisions on the base paths. There are times it ends in a TOOTBLAN. But, there are moments, regardless of the risk factor, it pays off, even if you’re yelling at the screen why would he even do that.

Fortune favors the bold, though. Altuve’s decision to go for home, no matter how questionable, proved to be the difference in this game.

To bring back a classic line, I literally love Jose Altuve, unnecessary risks and all.

Spencer Arrighetti once again struggled with his command at various points, issuing four walks, with that three-run second inning standing out. But, overall, the right-hander did well enough, limiting the Angels to three runs while striking out seven across six. Compared to how the Astros were throwing the ball six weeks ago, I’d gladly take that.

Considering how hard the Astros were hitting the ball off of Grayson Rodriguez, it felt like only a matter of time before the lineup scored some runs. Christian Walker’s RBI double in the third got them on the board, but it was back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth from LaMonte Wade Jr. and Cam Smith that tied the game at 3-3.

Also, are the Astros actually cursed? No, seriously? Another day, another injury (Wade’s hamstring running on the base paths).

Zach Neto’s solo home run in the seventh would let the Angels take a 4-3 lead before Walker’s RBI single in the ninth tied it up again.

Josh Hader and Bryan Abreu would combine to throw two scoreless innings. Brice Matthews made a terrific throw from left field to save a run in the tenth to keep the Angels from tying it up.

Overall, it was a fun game to watch. A successful comeback now gives Houston a 31-37 record, trailing the Mariners by 4.5 games in the AL West.

I am guessing, Altuve bet on Madrigal throwing late, not a bad throw.

that’s what happened in 2021 when kyle tucker popped up to 2B elvis andrus in a very similar location with altuve on third. he was caught off guard and there was a half beat delay before he threw.

although in the 2021 play, elvis was in much better position to make a play because he was camped under the popup. madrigal’s momentum was drawing him backwards.

But altuve i think got a much better jump on the andrus play than the madrigal one. I think he made the decision he was gonna go for it a lot earlier when the ball was in the air. when he got asked about when he made the decision for this one in that post game interview, he was just like “i dunno.. just so much adrenaline!” 😂

We as fans are all Rear Admiral Cain…..Jose Altuve is Maverick…..

We question the methods, we question the decisions……

Altuve could be a two star admiral by now, maybe even a senator……

Altuve….in the end….is where he belongs…..in the box….downing enemy planes….leading us to victory.

🤘🏼

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“I don’t think I’m the face of the city or the Houston Astros. I’m just another guy who is playing hard to make dreams come true.”
