By wRC+, the Astros still possess the best lineup in baseball, even following the sweep from the *checks notes* Rockies. Frankly, that’s still a surprise to me, but if the data supports that assertion for now, hey, there must be something to it. But Houston’s opponent for the next four games has arguably the second-best pitching staff in baseball, at least based on FIP. Regardless of the final result, we’ll obtain some additional clarity about the quality of this lineup.

Both the Astros and Mariners have had rough starts to their season, but in different ways. We already know that Houston’s pitching staff has underperformed relative to expectations, while the lineup has greatly exceeded any hopes throughout the first 13 games. But injuries to the pitching staff have placed additional pressure on the lineup to continue producing at a high level. Losing Hunter Brown, in particular, is a massive blow. For Seattle, its pitching staff has been fantastic. No surprise there, to be honest. The Mariners’ lineup, however, hasn’t been producing. But if they’re looking for a series to get right at the plate, then a four-game set against these Astros might be the remedy.
Of course, Tatsuya Imai will have a say in that. While he didn’t have a quality debut against the Angels, Imai showed why teams had interest in him in the first place in his second start against the A’s. Of any starter with at least 25 pitches in a single game, Imai’s April 4 appearance against the A’s produced a 43.9% whiff rate, the 12th-highest so far in 2026. The Astros will undoubtedly need more of those kinds of results to survive Brown’s absence. Will it happen against the Mariners? You never know. Imai is still adjusting to Major League Baseball, and it is unrealistic to expect those growing pains to stop now. But he does have some of the best stuff on the staff at the moment. If Houston can remain afloat while waiting for certain players to return from the IL, I have a feeling Imai will play an important role.
Astros @ Mariners Game Information and Gamethread Details
Imai starts opposite Emerson Hancock, who has had a tremendous start to his season (0.71 ERA/2.44 FIP in 12 2/3 innings), striking out 14. This has the potential to be a fun pitching matchup. Whether that occurs is the question.

For the lineup, Carlos Correa returns after missing the last two games of the series in Denver. Isaac Paredes gets the start at second base, with Jose Altuve hitting third as the DH. Yordan Alvarez will be in left field.
The game will be broadcast at 8:40 p.m. CT on SCHN with radio coverage on KBME 790 AM.
In other news, Cristian Javier and Jake Meyers find themselves on the 15-day IL, with J.P. France and Taylor Trammell taking their spots on the active roster. Ronel Blanco, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery last season, was moved to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster.

So Cal Raleigh was 0 for 9 with 5 K in the WBC. So far on the season he’s 7 for 49 with 21 K. He’s going to break out of this. Let’s pray that it doesn’t happen until Tuesday.
Need Big Slumper and JRod to stay cold.
LFG!
