For the first time since September 30, 2007, there will be a Biggio in an Astros lineup. But, instead of Craig Biggio, it’ll be his son, Cavan Biggio.
Now I’m feeling old.
For the rest of the lineup, we’ll see more of Isaac Paredes at second base. Carlos Pérez gets the start behind the plate, with Ryan Weiss starting. About Weiss, he has quietly put together an efficient Spring Training, striking out six across 5 1/3 innings. The right-hander is among the candidates for a starting role with the Astros opening the season with a six-man rotation. Barring injury, we can likely pencil in Hunter Brown, Tatsuya Imai, and Mike Burrows for three of those jobs. Cristian Javier is being paid to start, so that feels safe to assume. Of the remaining two roles, it’ll likely come down to Weiss, Lance McCullers Jr., and Spencer Arrighetti. At this point, I’d lean toward Weiss and McCullers for those final spots in the rotation, but that isn’t set in stone.
